Description
A gorgeous sunset witnessed while wandering around in the wooded part of Gulf Islands National Seashore on Santa Rosa Island. There’s so much to see, from the obvious hurricane damaged remnants of trees, lots of greenery, birds and their nests in the still standing trees, and occasionally an old piece of history left over from when the island was fortified during World War II and before (just to be sure, let me say no artifacts are allowed to be removed). Lots of animals too. I see lots of armadillos searching for food, bunches of lizards, a very healthy population of snakes (lots of water moccasins and rattlesnakes) so keep a watchful eye out for them. They will not hurt you if you just leave them alone, plus it is a federal offense to kill one in the National Seashore. I will never understand why people want to kill a snake anyway, and have stopped many people from harassing them over the years, and have even reported a couple of folks who purposefully killed snakes crossing the roads. I hope they faced a very stiff fine! If you ever get the chance to visit the National Seashore, it’s a beautiful place and stretches from NW Florida to Coastal Mississippi.
