To me, one of the most interesting animals in the ocean has always been sea urchins. When I was diving I loved to watch them intently, watching their spines bristle and move slowly and I would always find their skeletons all over the bottom. The shells or skeletons are actually called TESTS. A test is made up of magnesium calcite plates fused together beneath the skin, and a bare test is quite intricate in nature and very beautiful. They can be several different colors, but most of what I've witnessed have been black, green, or red or purplish red. These shells are just one more marvels of nature.
For me, nature photography started simply as a way to record my adventures and trips so I could revisit them for years to come. What began as an afterthought gradually evolved into a consuming passion. I am very fortunate in that my dad was an avid outdoorsman, and he passed his love for the outdoors along to my brothers and me. I can vividly remember quail hunting with my dad when I was young, trudging along trying to keep up through thick cover on a freezing morning, and I still have great memories of bream fishing with my grandparents and enjoying with them that special time in late afternoon when everything grew still and quiet right before the crickets and frogs erupted into their beautiful night song. Those days are gone forever...
