Description
The raucous, swiftly flowing mountain streams of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park were strangely tame during our visit last week. It seems this area of Tennessee has suffered under the same drought conditions NW Florida has endured lately. I’ve never witnessed streams so low and subdued in my 72 years. Some still had flow in certain parts where the river was more constrained or restricted, but others were also dry. Most of the small roadside waterfalls along Tremont Road were not flowing at all. This image was taken in the Middle Prong of Little River off Tremont Road. The river still had some flow here and there and I will post some of those images later, but this large rock/boulder was high and dry for the most part. To give some scale to the image, this rock was ~ 35-40 inches in diameter. Even without the usual amount of water it was still a beautiful scene.
