Description

Black Crown Night Herons are beautiful residents of the marsh & swamp areas of NW Florida. They seem to mostly sit around during the day at water’s edge but become more active around dusk. I caught this beauty in a small tree in the water at St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge. It’s a very popular tree for photographers as you can almost always count on several of these night herons to be there. On this afternoon, there were 6 birds in the general area around the tree, including one juvenile that seems to always be there.
