Description
Sunrise on the Santa Fe River is always special and beautiful. In this image, it appears as a huge family of cypress knees are there to greet the river. Cypress knees add a great mysterious feel to southern rivers like the Santa Fe. There have been many theories as to the purpose of the knees, but even today there is not scientific consensus on their purpose. Personally, after witnessing the massive roots systems of cypress knees, I believe their purpose is to help stabilize the large cypress trees in the soft mud and ground where they tend to flourish. Mind you, I am not saying that is fact, that is just my belief.
I love the dark, tannic stained water of the Santa Fe and Suwannee Rivers; then, when you add the ghostly mist rising from that dark water it becomes even more special. The lazy current eases its way downstream in a way that invites you to relax and enjoy the ride. There are many freshwater springs which help feed the Santa Fe and give you a chance to swim in their cold, crystal clear water. It is a lovely way to spend the day.
